National Institutes of Health: Loan Repayment Program

Paying off student loan debt can be a real challenge for graduating students. It is nice to learn there are programs willing to help with the debt. This particular information is basically for graduates in the medical field. The NIH has a loan repayment program where they pay the student loans in exchange for the researchers' time.

According to their website (link below) a total of $71,361,754 was awarded in 2008 - helping 1,583 medical and research science graduates repay student loans.

The five basic research fields listed on their website http://www.lrp.nih.gov/faq/index.aspx as of today are clinical research, pediatric research, health disparities research, contraception and infertility research, and clinical research for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Information on the programs and research projects are listed on their website. (The link above goes to their FAQ page and the site is easy to navigate from there.)
